Mohammed Siraj: India’s Relentless Fast-Bowling Star

Mohammed Siraj journey from humble beginnings to international cricket is truly inspiring. The son of an autorickshaw driver from Hyderabad, he started playing cricket seriously only in class seven. It was not until 2015 that Siraj bowled with a proper cricket ball. Just two years later, he earned an IPL contract worth INR 2.6 crore and made his T20I debut for India against New Zealand.

Early Career and Rapid Rise

Sturdy and athletic, Siraj has a deceptive run-up that tricks many into thinking he is a left-arm bowler. However, he is a right-arm pacer who naturally swings the ball into right-handers. His sharp bouncers caught the attention of Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner and mentor VVS Laxman early in his career.

In his second Ranji Trophy season, Siraj became Hyderabad’s highest wicket-taker with 41 wickets in nine matches. His impressive performance earned him a place in the Rest of India squad and the India A team for a South Africa tour in 2017. His steady progress opened the door to international cricket soon after.

IPL Journey

Siraj’s IPL career took off when Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for INR 2.6 crore. He delivered a strong debut season, taking 10 wickets in six games. Later, he joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he spent seven successful years. At RCB, he became the team’s key bowler during the powerplay overs.

His best IPL season came in 2023 when he claimed 19 wickets from 14 matches. In 2024, he followed up with another solid performance, taking 15 wickets. However, RCB released him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Gujarat Titans (GT) then snapped him up for INR 12.25 crore, recognizing his immense value as a pace spearhead.

Playing Style and Future Prospects

Mohammed Siraj is known for his relentless accuracy, sharp seam movement, and devastating yorkers. His ability to deliver under pressure makes him a crucial asset for both India and any franchise he represents. As he continues to evolve, Siraj is poised to become one of the leading fast bowlers on the world stage.
