Kagiso Rabada: South Africa’s Fast Bowling Sensation

Kagiso Rabada is a dynamic South African fast bowler, renowned for consistently delivering speeds between 140-150 kph. Emerging after South Africa’s reign as the No.1 Test team, Rabada quickly became one of the country’s most promising talents. Before turning 21, he had already positioned himself as a leader of the national bowling attack.

Early Career and Breakthrough

Rabada first gained attention during the 2014 Under-19 World Cup, where he took 6 for 25 in the semi-final against Australia. His performance helped South Africa clinch their first Under-19 title, with Rabada finishing as their top wicket-taker. Following this success, he earned a franchise contract with the Lions and soon debuted for South Africa’s T20I team against Australia in late 2014.

Rapid Rise to Prominence

In 2015, Rabada showcased his longer-format prowess by breaking Dale Steyn’s record for the best first-class bowling figures, taking 14 for 105. His excellent domestic season led to international opportunities across formats. On his ODI debut against Bangladesh, he achieved a remarkable hat-trick and finished with 6 for 16, setting a record for debutants.

Despite difficult conditions during the India Test series, Rabada showed grit and stamina. He truly excelled at home against England, becoming the youngest South African to claim 10 wickets in a match with figures of 13 for 144. His workload continued to grow as he represented South Africa in ODIs, T20Is, and at the 2016 World T20.

Rabada’s IPL Journey

Rabada’s international success paved his way into the Indian Premier League (IPL). Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils) signed him in 2017 for INR 5 crore. Although injury limited his appearances initially, he roared back in 2019 with 25 wickets in 12 games. In 2020, he claimed the Purple Cap by taking 30 wickets, helping Delhi to the final.

Released ahead of the 2022 mega auction, Rabada joined Punjab Kings for INR 9.25 crore. His first season saw him take 23 wickets. In IPL 2024, he picked up 11 wickets from 11 matches. In 2025, Gujarat Titans secured him for INR 10.75 crore, reaffirming his value in T20 cricket.

Legacy and Future

Kagiso Rabada stands as a pillar of South Africa’s bowling attack. His raw pace, aggressive style, and relentless spirit have made him one of the best fast bowlers of his generation. Fans and experts eagerly await his continued dominance in both international cricket and the IPL arena.
