Harshal Patel Player Profile

Harshal Patel is known for his slower-ball expertise, particularly his dipping yorkers that challenge even the best batters. His unique skills make him a valuable pick for any T20 franchise. After his breakthrough performance in the 2021 IPL, where he took 32 wickets, RCB bought him for US$ 1.4 million (Rs 10.75 crore) for the 2022 season, more than fifty times his previous salary. In the 2024 IPL, he was the only Indian player bought for over Rs 10 crore, underscoring his value as a T20 bowler.

In the 2021 IPL, Harshal claimed his maiden T20 five-wicket haul, dismissing top batters like Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, and Ishan Kishan. This performance led to his India debut that year. Although he was part of the 2022 T20 World Cup squad, he did not play due to a rib injury. In the 2024 IPL, Harshal once again led the tournament’s wicket charts, taking 24 wickets at a strike rate of 12.2.

Harshal Patel’s Journey Through Domestic Cricket

Harshal Patel started his career by taking 23 wickets in the 2008-09 Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy. This earned him a List A debut for Gujarat in the same season. Harshal played in the 2010 Under-19 World Cup and secured an IPL contract with Mumbai Indians. However, he waited two years before playing his first IPL match. During this time, Harshal moved to Haryana, where he made an immediate impact. At 21, he took eight wickets in both the quarter-final and semi-final of the 2012 Ranji Trophy, leading Haryana to the final.

He joined RCB for his IPL debut but struggled for playing time early on. Despite this, Harshal remained consistent in domestic cricket. In the 2015-16 season, he made a strong comeback, taking key wickets across all formats. His excellent form earned him a place in the 2016 IPL season with RCB.

Harshal Patel’s Rise to Prominence

In 2019-20, Harshal broke his own limits with a record-breaking 52 wickets in nine Ranji matches. His performance helped Haryana finish the season strongly. Harshal’s all-round ability shone through in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy that year, where he took 19 wickets at an economy rate of 7.04 and scored 374 runs at a strike rate of 165.48.

In 2023, Harshal led Haryana to their first-ever Vijay Hazare Trophy title. He took 19 wickets in the tournament, including three wickets in the final, proving once again that he is a match-winner.
